I was once a fish

I am not innocent. Once when I was younger I asked my friend to catfish someone that I was “dating” to get out of the relationship.

Once upon a time I was with a person who we will call The Person for their protection during this story. I’d met The Person a couple of years ago at a close cousin’s birthday party. After the party I never really thought about The Person or kept up with them on social media.
Fast forward a couple of years later and The Person found me on facebook. I did not recognize their profile, but I was adding strangers on facebook at that point anyway so I never really thought much about it. Maybe a couple of hours later I got a message from The Person asking if I remembered them. I confessed that I did not, and The Person refreshed my memory of the party that night. We messaged each other back and forth for a couple of days. Fast forward again, and The Person confessed that they had a crush on me. I was young and bored, so I mustered up the same feelings. A couple of minutes later we were “dating. “
I finally took it upon myself to actually look at this person's profile pictures, and I mean really look at all of them instead of just glancing. They did not have many, but the ones that were posted were pretty , so that solidified my decision to “date “ them.
Fast forward  a couple of weeks and things were going great together.
One day as The Person and I talked they shared with me that they did not have their hair done. I had never seen The Person’s real hair, so I asked them to send a picture.
Once they sent the picture I was very confused. I did not understand how the two could be the same person ! I went back through their profile pictures and then I realized that they only had flattering pictures of PORTIONS of their face. I thought back to that day of the party, but their face was fuzzy in my memory.
The saddest part of this story is that  I was so young and shallow that I actually asked my friend to set up a fake profile picture and account with the messenger app we were using, and tell The Person that I was cheating so that they would break up with me.
Needless to say I was out of that situation pretty soon.
That is my closest catfish experience.

Thanks for sharing your story. It was interesting. I think several people have been in similar situations before, either cat fishing their partner or asking someone to catfish their partner for them. Most of the time, it seems like the reason for doing it is to catch the partner cheating, but in your case is much more original. I understand why you did it, and in your defense, you might have been being catfished by the other person. Either way, good post!
