A Society Obsessed With Crime

Our society has become so obsessed with crime television that we have become desensitized from criminal events that have happened. For example many people have become familiar with the FX TV show that depicted the OJ Simpson case. People are not thinking about the victims in this case but are viewing this as a source of entertainment. Over the years more and more television shows are based on crime and the heinous activities that people have committed. Because we see these types of things occur on television so often, we have become more accustomed to it. The movie that we watched called White Bear is a perfect example of how people can view crime as a source of entertainment. In the movie a woman has no idea what's going on and sees masked people trying to kill her. No one around her will help her, they just pull out their phones and begin to record her. At the end of the movie we find out that she actually is a criminal and she videotaped a little girl getting murdered by her boyfriend. The people that were videotaping her were actually a part of the audience. After they take her back home they erase her memory and will continue the process again the next day. I think it is morally wrong to do this because we are taking part in the torture of another human being. This should not be viewed as entertainment or a family event. The person who killed the little girl should be put in a jail cell far away from human contact so that she would have to live with what she did to this innocent child. I don't think it is right for them to torture her on a daily basis as a source of entertainment. This makes the people who work for White Bear and people who come to the place for entertainment just as guilty as the original guilty party.

I believe that there should be some kind of rehabilitation center for people who have committed certain kinds of crimes. Some people who go to jail still continue to do the same thing once they get out of jail. This tells us that our justice system is failing us. I still believe that people who have committed a crime should be locked away from the rest of society, but I think that there should be therapy sessions for each one of the prisoners so that they can find out why they are committing these kinds of crimes. Also prisoners should have some type of job certification before they are even eligible to be released from jail. I think putting these things in place will cause less people to return to prison. Our society should be less obsessed with the type of punishment the person is going to receive and more on what we can do to change this behavior. If we were able to focus on this, then I believe that we would have a society with less crime.
