Is it really the same person being punished?

Personally, I think that this episode of "Black Mirror" raises a lot of questions and moral problems/issues. One of the things that were discussed in class a week or so ago, was that if the person that commited the crime doesn't remember what he/she did, is it still correct to punish this person? How is it that her body does not shut down after her being in mental- and physical stress every day for who knows how many months? All of these questions are moretheless important in understanding "White Bear".

In my opinion, I don't think she should be punished this way. I think that it is a very wrong way to do it, because she doesn't even know what she did. And she has no clue that she is being punished until the end of each day. But you can also make the argument for that she should be punished, because should a person who commits a crime, but who also loses his/her memory, be punished? In my opinion, these are two different cases. The White bear case, is different from the other made up case, because she is not knowing what she has done while she is being punished. She is just running around fearing for her life. But maybe the officials in this city, are trying to recreate the way that the kid felt, so that she will have the same experience. Although this seems reasonable, this raises another question: Shouldn't she know that this is how she should feel, to make her feel bad about what she did?

The other question raised, that I find very interesting, is that how her body does not shut down from all this emotional stress every day. I find this interesting because her brain doesn't know that she is being put through this so many times, but her body must still remember or feel the pain and suffering from  the previous days somehow. Another thing is that she only eats once and drinks one glass of water during the day. This would make her very dehydrated and undernourished. And if she would continue to do that for several weeks, she must die at some point.

As a final statement, I would like to express my feelings about this movie. Who makes up stuff like this? This movie is the most awful, creepy, terrifying, and psychopathic thing that I have ever watched. I do not understand people who makes stuff like this up.

Everyday when she wakes she is not knowing that she is in trouble, it's just another day but it is more abnormal. So when she is trying to piece things together through out the movie she thinks she is escaping. It is not till the last little bit of each day does she know she's done something wrong. Not till that point dose she see the point of everything being so different and abnormal to her.

I would have to say that she should still be punished. I disagree with the way that she was punished but I do believe that she should have some consequences. Rather she remembers or not, there was enough evidence to prove that she did in fact partake in the murder and torture of the child. Therefore, she should have repercussions.
