Mentalities Seen in Catfish

       While I was watching the film, I was aware of what the outcome would be. Maybe not who exactly was acting as Megan but that the outcome would be somebody different. This is because I have seen the TV show on MTV, Catfish that is hosted by Nev himself. What stuck out to me the most during this film was the two different mentalities of the main characters, Nev and Angela.

       Nev seems to be a very sweet, gentle, artsy kind of guy with an appreciation for people and things that make them different or happy. He is almost so happy for other people and their interests, it almost makes him blind to things. While I do truly like Nev, I think he is a little naïve. This could be because he was so wound up in his feelings but I would like to believe that a normal person would catch more of the red flags out there. Along with this is the advancement of technology that makes it easier for us to check out other people's online identity and see if it matches up with a real person. Things like other social media forms such as twitter and instagram and video chats like facetime and Skype make this much harder for people to make up fake identities. Since technology today makes it so much easier, I guess you have to give the guy a break. I do think though that he was so quick to fall In love with the idea of a person because he was lonely.


      Angela is a whole different story. While Nev is just a little naïve, Angela needs some actual professional help. When I say this, I do not mean it with a negative tone I just genuinely believe she needs to see someone to find a more positive outlet and way of dealing with all she has going on in her home life. Her relationship with Nev and the 10 other identities she has made up are her way of escaping the reality she is living in with two handicapped step sons and a husband who I am quite certain has learning disabilities as well. She is actually quite a smart person to come up with all of this with such elaborate stories and being able to maintain all of the different people.


      The main thing I was impressed with that I mentioned in one of my comments, was the ability for Nev to stay so calm and collected when finding all of this out in person with Angela. He is truly a caring person that wants to understand everything before making judgments or rash decisions. I think that takes a lot out of a person and was very considerate especially after seeing all the Angela is already dealing with.
