The documentary. We find that Nev and his friends are trying to make the distinction between Angela and Megan but later you found out that there was no Megan it was Angela the whole time. Angela was just putting on a façade. When she said that she has cancer the audience felt sympathetic however when they realized she lied about having cancer it did not make me feel at all sorry. I felt bad however, when she first said she had cancer and I thought she is actually trying to put her life together and be stable. She had a identity crisis because of all these personalities she was trying to be. There was no reason to feel sorry for her because she was lying for no reason. There is no way that she was going to be able to redeem herself and prove her character to Nev but it could have been taken differently if she presented all of the information at the beginning. If she had had cancer, she would've been able to say that this was. She kept digging her hole deeper and deeper of lies and when she had the chance to tell the truth she stil chose to lie. Everyone has a different meaning of what catfish means but to me it means that it's not only a liar but someone who keeps you on your toes and that's what Angela was. As the documentary progresses, you start to understand and get a sense for what Angela was trying to do, when things were not going the way she had planned an identity shift was something that plays a major theme that recurred throughout the film. As new developments in this case were happening, you could tell that more weird things were to come and the idea that is that she was being a new identity online rather than who she really is in real life, she fully embraced the identity of Megan. Having this in mind, it is better to tell the truth, then to say one thing, in real life something totally different online.
