Boomerang!

Catfish: The Movie/Documentary literally left me at the edge of my seat. Though I've seen this before, it always feels like the first time whenever I see it again. This type of action is something that is amusing, but disturbing and interesting for viewers at the same time. However, there is always a moral of the story. In this case there were several. In addition, the extensive use of technology contributes to the endless conflict between Nev, Angela, and Megan. As we get further into the semester, we realize that technology is telling us over and over that it is the future.

In today's society technology has allowed individuals to hide his or her true identity and act as another. This is what Angela did to Nev: she created over 15 profiles that connected with the main profile of Megan Faccio, who was Angela's half-sister and Nev's lover. As we discussed in class on Friday with Dr. J, Angela's troubled and lonesome past may be the reason for the chaos. I believe this is a true statement because some faults or events that takes place in one's life may never be consulted or dealt with. However, I do have mixed feelings on the topic of Angela cheating on her husband. The answer couldn't be a straightforward yes or no without some sort of exception.

When it was revealed that Angela was married for 10 years with husband Vince, I did not take in consideration the dying question: Did Angela really cheat on her husband? My initial answer is yes because no married woman should be expressing her sexual desires to another man other than her husband. But, many say that she didn't cheat because the sexual desires she expressed did not take place. In Friday's class we concluded that emotional cheating took place between Angela/Megan and Nev. After realizing this, we sometimes have to stop and ask ourselves "what?" or "why?".

From the past two weeks, technology has proven to us that it can easily take away our morals and values. Angela was a troubled woman with a family and husband that used these Facebook profiles to escape her daily troubles. Sadly, the situation was taken too far and both sides took losses. Angela fell in love with Nev in the form of Megan and Nev discovered that his online lover was not genuine. This boomerang effect will continue if technology takes over the modern world.
