:You and Me Go Fishin on the Web"

The video we watched this week at first glimpse seemed to be nothing more than an amateur film maker documenting one of his best friend's love life with a girl with which their relationship was complicated; how original. But as you begin to see the relationship between Nev and "Megan" unfold, the viewer begins to find hisself or herself enthralled with the serious depth of how far someone can go to make themselves falsely appear more desirable. During the lecture on friday, we discussed that after Angela was caught in her web of lies, she said that in some way everything she shared with Nev was a small part of her. I agree with this; We all listen to music that helps us express our individuality and if someone else finds that same music beautiful, it can be shared just as the two main characters of this documentary did. During the film, it became obvious that something about Abbey's family was a little off, but the biggest surprise of them all was Angela was a married woman. It's hard to fathom that someone who lives such a complex life still has time to create this seemingly legitimate alternate ego over the internet and have the ability to manipulate someone like the way she did with Nev. Another hot topic of discussion was whether or not Angela cheated on her husband. The class was mixed with answers ranging from she didn't physically have an interaction was Nev so nothing happened to some people, including myself, arguing that things don't have to get physical before it's considered cheating. Emotional cheating is just as bad in my opinion; you're allowing someone to love you with all their heart, while you love them and another person, all the while having your foot half way out the door for lover number two. Another part of the film I thought to be very interesting was how they got the name for the documentary.  I never knew that in order to keep the smaller fish alive, they added catfish inside the containers to keep the other fish agile. In a way, that's exactly what happened in the film. These other people on the internet, are there to allow people who wouldn't regularly receive attention a means of feeling something that they normally wouldn't if they acted like themselves. After watching this film, I am going to be more than careful about who I begin creating friendships with.
