My Thoughts on P.A.B.S.

Another project that caught my interest was the project about young suicide. I think it was a good idea for them to raise awareness for such a problem. I know that teen suicide has become a big problem especially because of bullying and technology. Because of this, it is also connected to the awareness of bullying. Bullies are just people who feel so bad about themselves that they have to take it out on someone else. As a result, the people they bully take their actions and words seriously and to heart. It becomes so out of hand that the person being bullied can't take it anymore and decide to end their life. This is just one of the mane causes for suicide, but there are also many more. For this project, they decided to make an app to notify parents if their child is speaking on suicide or contemplating doing it by studying key words on several boards, such as social media and text. They also suggested it be mandatory for every phone. Even though this project is a good idea, it would also take a lot of approval from many people to get it going. Kids also might not like the idea because it would get the parents "all in their business" as they would say. It would require for the phone creators and phone services to agree with such a thing and there are always chances they won't. Also there's the issue if whether or not the parents actually want to have that whether it's free or not. It would also take the collaboration of the social media sights as well. I feel like they wouldn't even want to bother going through all that trouble if the app was free and they weren't making any money from it. It's sad, but that's the way companies and businesses work today. Some though, might cooperate for the publicity of it all. Very few would do it just because it would be a good thing to do. It was also touching to hear the group members personal experience with her battle with bullying and her failed suicide attempt. I can see that the issue meant a lot fro her and she really wanted to make a difference. I also liked the idea of the app where the kids could go to to speak to specialists to help them with whatever they are struggling with and to listen, and same with the parents. They have the choice to talk to other regular people about it or actual professionals. I think this would be a great idea or a great starting point for creating something that actually could decrease the teen rate suicide.
