Social Networking App Thoughts

I really like how this app is addressing on what I feel is a serious issues in our world. We have the technology and opportunity to be able to talk to anyone at anytime, which is truly fascinating and I think a fundamentally a good thing. However, why is it that despite all these measures to draw us closer together and to form relationships, that we have actually done the opposite. We have grown apart. We are becoming disconnect from ourselves, each other, and often society. For instance, I know in Japan a lot o people have like stopped dating and getting married. Their birth rate is at an all-time low and their death rate is at an all-time high. I think everyone would agree that we generally believe that the Japanese are a rather tech-savy culture too.

This goes to tell us that our technology is lacking in actually bringing people together to form relationships, and in fact I believe there is strong evidence that it distorts are real life/personal relationships. Just look at Japan for instance. I also know that social anxiety and mental illnesses are at a high. People do not talk about these mental health issues as much, since it is a touchy topic. People also like to think that people who suffer from mental health issues are weak, and this is simply not the case. I do think that a lot of these anxieties are derived from social media. I think people care too much about Facebook and twitter. I know too many people that literally absorb themselves more through these social media/networking websites, than they do in real life with the people they see everyday. It is really silly.

So I really like the social networking app that matches you up on interests and location, so you can have a conversation with someone that you can relate with. For instance, if you are in a new city and started a new job. You are lonely, and have no friends nearby you. This app would allow you to just simply have a conversation with someone.

It is a brilliant idea. We live in a time where we have such great materials and products that we can use to benefit ourselves and each other. Our globalized world provides us with a tremendous, fascinating way reach out to our fellow man and build relationships. Why don't we?
