Shelter Connection Review

Shelter Connection is a website to help feed, clothe, and aid the homeless with any other need that comes up. The website has lots of great features such as the charity of the week, list of charities, a calendar of local events, and use of crowd rise as a fundraising tool. Having a charity of the week is a great feature that is an incentive for people to continually visit the website and is another great way to spread news of new and old organizations. It can help new organizations because of the “suggestions” options, which allows anyone to nominate their charity of choice. Being able to have a list of charities all in one place is a great and convenient way for people wanting to help find charities. Similar to why my group (Memphis Healthy Habits) chose to put a lot of health related articles, having a list of local charities with updated information about each charity is an easy way to find a group that website visitors want to devote their time and/or money. Displaying the cost for each necessary item is a great way to get people to donate money because it shows where the donated money is going and how it will help the person in need. I also really like the calendar feature because I have always seen an interesting event and forgotten to write a reminder to myself about it. Having a calendar with all of these events makes attending events easier because it will help website visitors schedule event attendance around their personal lives. During the group’s presentation, they made a great point about having all of the updated information for the charities because many of them have old, non-updated websites. The websites are like this because the organization may not have the manpower to constantly work on their group’s website. The use of crowd rise is another great feature because I did not realize there were other reputable fundraising websites that were cheaper than gofundme. The project was a great way to help the homeless by helping the helpers.
