SafeTeam

The SafeTeam presentation offered a solution to help people get out of particular situations in which he/she is facing some form of harassment or bullying by the touch of a button on the SafeTeam App or Safelet device which then sends out a distress signal to safe people within 25 meters. The safe people come to your aid and get you out of a particular situation. I liked this idea as being an effective solution to help with minor harassment incidents. I believe that women in particular, especially those in college, would feel safer with the SafeTeam app or Safelet device as it could help them escape the harassment from men whose respect for women has been corrupted. College is full of young men and women who make poor decisions daily, and with the use of alcohol, drugs, etc. the likelihood for harm is increased, thus sometimes creating an unsafe environment for young women. As for college overall, I believe this app and device would really benefit the campus environment for all students at a particular university. I think that this app succeeds best in areas that have a high concentration of people.
Overall, I enjoyed the presentation. I thought it was professional and the SafeTeam app and device offers a solution to a widely experienced problem with harassment. The presenters did an excellent job of explaining how exactly their technology works by having physical examples and providing a video that gets right to the point. I like the idea of using background checks to help determine which potential SafeTeam members are actually “safe” or not. I also like how the technology does not try to play the police, but instead serves as solution to get out of an escalating harassment conflict. As far as demonstrating this technology as though it were actually real, this group did a wonderful job of making the product seem as believable as possible. The presenters used the best of their available resources to help guide the audience. In addition, the brand t-shirts also added to capturing the reality of the product. The website was also impressive and I thought it was great that the presenters provided sources to help coach their safe users and teach them how to respond in certain situations, based on certified sources. If SafeTeam were to become a thing, then I believe that college campuses and their security would make good use of this technology to help clean up harassment.
