bucca-NEAR-u Review

The bucca-NEAR-u project was of an app that works to alert campus security in a faster and more efficient way to different incidences that happens on campus. This app would allow for a better and easier connection to security whether it is a small report for less harsh crimes or a security report for more serious crimes.

The group researched crime facts that happen on college campus violence. It was very interesting and alarming to know that one in four college women are sexually assaulted. There are also 781 hate crimes. Ninety seven percent of crimes on a college campus are property crimes. The group painted a clear picture as to how this app will work and benefit the people on campus and improve the safety. I like that this app works for this campus only. There are a lot of incidences that go unnoticed and not reported on college campuses.  The group reported that eighty percent of rapes are unreported. That was sickening to hear. This app would make it faster and easier for the rape victim or any other victim to quickly get in touch with campus safety and get the help and assistance that they need. The app itself would both solve this issue as well as raise awareness of this social issue as a problem. I was shocked to know that Christian Brothers has a 87 page document called the Crisis Management Plan that would be very inconvenient for a person in need of help. The app is also very simple to use and understand. On the main page of the app it provides numbers that can be used instead of contacting campus safety. If a person feels more comfortable talking to Ms. Sadie they have her number on their app to be able to get in touch with her. Finally, the group also noted the flaws and limitations that they knew would need to be worked out to make the app even better than what it is now. They stated their future goals and spreading this app to different colleges to help students in need on campus.
Anonymous reporting on the app is very helpful and convenient for people who may not want to have their real name out. The idea is not broad, but instead focused, allowing them to come up with more ideas to improve the app for the benefit of our campus. This group proved it could find a solution by actually creating the app itself, establishing the feasibility of their project. The group's project was well put together and thought through. The group had both technology and morality in their design and idea. The outcome is great and is very beneficial for the faculty, staff, and students on campus.

Thanks, it's great to see that our concept was received well.
