Calnter Thoughts

Calnter was a system designed my some of my peers that is suppose to count calories and keep track of people's fast food intake.  Statistics show that 1 in 3 adults are considered obese and 2 out of 3 adults are considered overweight.  A lot of people are unaware that obesity is a disease.  A person who is defined as being obese has a Body Mass Index of 30 or more.  32.8 % percent of the population in the United States is overweight, this is 66% more than in other countries.  Around $147 Billion dollars a year is used to treat obesity. This is where the Calnter comes into play. The Calnter's plan is to raise awareness of obesity and the over intake of fast food. This system is designed to be set up in restaurants and have people place their finger on the machine and as a result it will allow how many more calories the person has left to eat certain items.  It also keeps up with how many times the person has eaten fast food and the maximum amount of calories a person is suppose to intake in a week.  A person is only suppose to intake 2,000 calories or less a day, which within a weeks time will be 14,000 calories a week. Calories are the amount of energy that the body will store from the food that a person in takes. I really like this project because it allows people to keep up with their calorie intake and how much they eat fast food.  Since, most Americans rely on fast food because it is quick and on the go it will allow awareness on how many calories people are taking in from just fast food.  I know for myself a lot of times I don't really pay attention to how many calories what I'm eating has, so to have something that alerts me may help me make more healthy food choices. One thing that I think can be adjusted is the aspect of having it set up at restaurants.  I think some restaurants would be hesitant to take up something like this because it may deter businesses.  Even though, taking on something like this will make customers believe that the customers health is the companies best interest most fast food chains won't be willing to take the lost in revenue from this. Especially since calorie intake can be different if someone works out, because someone that works out has more ability to intake more calories.  That is why I think this would be better ran as an app.  Through an app people will be able to key the food they eat and how much exercise and this will allow people to have a general idea of how much they are in taking and if its too much.  I think people will be willing to use this as an app more so than in a restaurant because it will be more confidential and allows them to incorporate their calorie intake. Maybe if the system was set up and allowed people to link it into the app people wouldn't be stuck trying to add up their calories for the day but already have a general idea of what it is just from their fast food consumption.
