Homelessness is a huge issue in today’s society. I think that targeting homelessness
was a great eye-opener. Finding My Place seems like a nice idea that would
tackle homelessness. I like the innovation and how well they plan on using
technology.
One of my main concerns is the
high possibility that many people will not use this device for what is was
intended for. I see a lot of people who “claim” they are homeless when they
really are not. I think the idea of this machine containing goods could take a
turn for the worst. While it is a wonderful idea to want to provide homeless
people with a form of survival, many predators would not care. I think the idea
that a classmate mentioned about a “card only” machine would be great to solve
the issue of random people inserting cash. However, many people’s cards get
stolen. A suggestion I have for this problem would be to just provide the goods
at a shelter. I think the group should stick to the idea of providing a map of
where the homeless people could go to find shelter and search for jobs.
With all of the advanced
technology in today’s time, it is no doubt that a machine like the “Find My
Place” device would be made. I do have concerns of how it would be managed. Who
would be hired to build the software systems, control the incoming finances,
funds, and if there will be a central headquarter for this device. A suggestion
that I have for the group is finding a way to partner with shelters. I think
many shelters would be interested in learning about this idea.
Tackling the homelessness
problem is a great deed. I understand that it is very easy to become homeless.
I see people on almost every corner asking for food, jobs, and money. One last
suggestion I have is to include a section where they could provide volunteer
service. This way they would be doing good deeds for society and building
experience that they could potentially add on a job application.
I really enjoyed watching this
group’s presentation. Everyone seemed very knowledgeable and confident about
their product I salute them for doing such a great job especially since they
were the first group to present. If this idea was invested in any way, I think
it has the potential to go a long way.
