Getting Schools Back on the Right Track

The presentation that I'm going to talk about is the one about the tutors. The second group presentation came up with an app called Tooters, thats main focus is to improve students learning. The problem they were trying to fix was schools not teaching what's really important. Teachers are just focused on getting their students to pass standardized tests and nothing else. These tests don't allow school to be fun anymore. None of the kids enjoy learning because they just learn the same things over and over again.

I never really knew that these tests were such a big deal since they weren't really that important when I was in school. All throughout my grade school years, going to school was so much fun. I had amazing teachers throughout my academic career that really tried to get you to learn something. They weren't focused on getting a good score on some test, but on having their students leave their classroom with real knowledge on their subject. I remember doing some many fun group projects, or playing learning games in class. All of that really helped me enjoy school. We were always learning something different each day of class. I couldn't imagine going to class and having the same material drilled into my head everyday or constantly taking practice tests. I feel like this is why so many kids hate school now. I would hate school too if I did the same routine everyday.

I really liked the idea of this app in the fact that it would help students learn and be more knowledgeable about different subjects, but the kids still have to go to school. Regardless of them learning outside of school they are still forced to do the same things at school. The app wouldn't change the main problem, which is children hating school. I just don't know if kids would want to use the app. If they hate learning at school, they might have a predetermined opinion about learning outside of school. All in all the app is a great way to get kids who want to learn better opportunities, but continue to worry about the other kids. This doesn't help the bigger problem that's at hand, and that is children are starting to hate school. Although this app is a great start to bettering education, I feel as though we need to start focusing on how to improve the actual schooling system. Maybe start out by helping the teachers find ways to make learning about the tests fun. Along with helping the schools and Tooters I feel like our school systems could get back on the right track.
