I really enjoyed the presentation on the concept of meeting people around campus. I have often wondered why colleges haven't already implemented such a system to encourage students to locate other students to eat, study, and enjoy campus activities with. I find college to be a very isolated experience. I feel that the age gap between me and most of the students on campus plays a significant role in my feelings of disconnect from the students here at CBU. So I feel that this idea of anonymity would greatly benefit me . I have always been shy and awkward, although I speak to everyone I socialize with very few. I originally began college many years ago, and I can remember the fun of living on campus, and having a more active social interaction with the students then. Even though I was already married and in my later 20's there was still a closer bound with the students then than I feel now. I miss that interaction and feeling of inclusion I felt then and it definitely makes a difference in the over all enjoyment of the college experience. I would have to say of all the crazy things we did as a student at Northwest my favorite craziest memory was the night of the grand opening of the super Walmart. There was a very close net group of about 15 students that participated in this night of fun. We all went to the grand opening dressed in our pjs and set in the floor in the children's book section with milk and cookies and had our leader of the pack read us the story of How The Grinch Stole Christmas. It was an amazing time of love, fun, friends, and craziness. I miss those types of fun interactions of being in college that you don't find in a classroom. I would definitely be a supporter of such an app.
I loved the humor used in the presentation. Particularly with the line about Snap-Chat, and the panty snatchers those lines were really cute. They utilized the idea of humor for the presentation even further by using Garfield and Oddie as their imaging. Which I felt the using of those characters were a warm, inviting, comfortable, and clever, way to present this presentation. They had obviously spent time working on this project.
.I love the idea of the points program. I felt that was very wise and well thought out incentive. I feel this would encourage students to engage in the use of the app. Which the more people involved and using the apps the better this system would work. I feel like the students would use this opportunity because people enjoy social media, socializing, and free stuff,
What I was concerned with was the idea of the star rating system. I did understand the purpose of the concept. But I did feel that maybe it could be used as a bullying type tool if not closely monitored. I'm also still confused as to how effective that system would be because students would never have the same amount of opportunities to earn the stars.
Overall they did a fantastic job and I did enjoy it very much.
