Thoughts about 1st week’s presentation

I really like Group 1’s app: P.A.B.S. (Parents Alerted Before Suicide) and Group 3’s app: T.T.Y.L. (Talk to You Later). In Group 1’s presentation, they use very impressive videos and statistics to show us Suicide Squad is very big and a lot of young people decide to end their life nowadays. That’s really distressing. The existing website or app can’t really solve the problem since it’s still too far away from the youth’s life. So, they decide to make this app, to let the parents notice the problem when their children act strangely. The parents can get the alarm when their children texting something like “want to die”, then they can help the children and think positively. One of the team member is very talented at painting, she draws the icon and let everyone sign on the graph to support their action, also post the picture on the Instagram in class which is awesome! It makes me feel the suicide is really near our life and if we do something, we can change this and save for lives! For the third group: T.T.Y.L., It’s an interesting topic. Since nowadays, more and more people focus on the phones or tablets instead of talking face to face. The short videos they show us in class are real funny. The main character tried to talk to her friends but in the end, people just ignore her and on their phones. This app may not change the situation that people ignore their real life without phones but can make part of people enjoy their life not only on the phone. If it’s boring on Sunday, why not go out and meet different people? You can know more about what you are interested in and maybe you can meet your best friend if you use this app. Anyway, only stay at home can’t meet new people. I like their power point and videos, also it’s very useful. It considers about the safety so have the function of “points”. However, it may cause another problem. When people have 2 choices, one stranger with 4.0 points and another stranger with 2.4 points. Certainly, they will choose the person who has higher points. However, the 4.0 may just let his friends make his points high on purpose but he may not good at the field he writes about. The 2.4-point person may has a dispute with the first person he met, but he is totally nice and knowledgeable, however, no one will choose him and he has no choice to raise his points. If this problem be solved, it will be a real good app for the people always on their phones.
