This past week we were all subjected to
presentations with a lot of great ideas, and with most of them
focusing on some very interesting issues in our world. I enjoyed them
all, so I'll try to touch on each one I saw.
The first was the suicide prevention
app. I realize how important mental health is for one's well-being
(along with others), and I know how prevalent mental illness is in
our society (especially America). I think this app is very good idea,
and brings more of a focus to the dire issue of mental illness. Why
are so many people suffering mentally? Is it because of our society?
Do people feel they have expectations they must meet that aren't
necessarily set by themselves, but instead these
standards/expectations are set by society? More people are committing
suicide each year, especially teens. I remember when I was a teen,
and I had trouble understanding who I was (along with who I wanted to
be). This caused me to look at our society, and look at how my other
fellow teens were acting. Needless to say, that is not a good idea,
because our culture is incredibly toxic and selfish. So I really
think the main reason our teens are subjected to such mental torment
is due to our societal pressures. I really think this app (Group 1)
thought of would be extremely helpful in bringing more awareness to
mental health.
I also really enjoyed the second group
presentation about tooders. I agree that our school and education
system is very narrow/rigid, and does not allow for students to
really broaden their intellectual horizon. It is a fact that most
people do not enjoy going to school, particularly high school. They
are being forced to learn things that they will never use, and they
are not being taught the things that they will actually use in their
future. I believe tooders can bring students closer to maybe why they
are being taught a certain subject, and that the specific tutor can
maybe generate more enthusiasm for the student.
The third presentation I thought was
also really cool with the idea of a social greeting/meeting app. I
like how they brought up how our society is so ingrained and
infatuated with their cellphones. Many of us are always looking and
checking our phones (even if there is not anything to check!). So
this app gives people another way to connect with people through a
medium that they are so accustom to. I think that this idea will help
people becoming more connected with each other, as opposed to,
becoming more distant from our fellow humans.
