Ice Ice Baby

As someone who doesn't pay as much attention to politics as I should, this app seems like a fantastic idea. It's a great way to gather and condense huge amounts of information that directly pertains to large groups of people. It also makes the information much more accessible. As one of the slides in the PowerPoint said, information about recent events and legislature is often scattered about. It can be found on the radio, TV, or online, but each source has its own problems. The radio and TV are limited in that the information they provide must be caught by the viewer. If one isn't watching or listening at the time the information is broadcast, they won't know. It can be much easier to find the information online, but the credibility can often be dubious. When people don't know where to turn, they could go to government sites to see the official documents, but these are definitely not written to be read easily. More often than not, they are written to confuse. So where do people turn? This app provides a place to gather the information that could be missed from the TV or radio, while also (hopefully) having more credibility than the internet.
The only major problem I can foresee in this app is the possibility for bias. Depending on who is putting information up on the app, and this could affect the app’s credibility. This could mostly be avoided by having it be run by a diverse group, people who are for and against the laws, ect. Then provide some information on them on the app so those who are using it could see and make the decision for themselves if they want to continue with the app. Also, would the app explain differences in laws across the states? While there are federal laws that affect immigrants, there are also state laws that are important.
It would also be cool to have lawyers on the site to provide interpretations of new legal happenings. As I stated before, laws are not really meant to be understood by the populace, so even if it was conveniently distributed, it may not be understood. Putting it in layman’s terms on the app would help the common people understand what was happening and remove the stress of ignorance.
Overall, I think this is a cool idea. While it wouldn’t be very useful to me given the subject matter it specializes in, there are many other out there that would really benefit from something like this.

I'm glad that you liked our idea, and I have to agree with you. The app could potentially be biased and not much can be done about that when all the group members are Hispanic, but we would be nice to have someone with a different perspective challenge what we say (Kind of like a devil's advocate). It would make the app more creditable and reliable.
