Dangerous Waters

Whenever someone says, " Catfish," two definitions are produced: the actual fish or the fake internet person. In this case, the fake person definition is used. Many people are afraid of Catfish-- for good reasons.  Catfishing is basically stealing someone else's identity and using as your own.  A Catfish may not even know the person, and use it to their advantage. For example, Angela from the documentary, used multiple people and conjured a web of lies, figuratively and literally. She created aliases of both genders to make her story even more realistic.
She produced fake addresses, which could have led Nev and his crew to dangerous situations. The farm may have been abandoned, but what if some crazy lived there? Nev and his crew would have been seriously injured or killed.  Angela did not think about the consequences, because she didn't think at all.
She wanted a more exciting life. Something that wasn't taking care of disabled children or subpart husband. She did not accomplish her dream of becoming an artist, but Nev helped her with that insecurity. But couldn't she have just introduced herself as Angela? The extent of her lies were frustrating. She lied about having a prodigy artist as a daughter. She lied about having two daughters, one of which she made up completely, which is weird. She had all of the time and patience to do this, but she couldn't go out and explore the world for herself, which is probably why many cannot sympathize.
What about the victims? While they are living their real life, someone else is using them as their web life. It would have been strange to see Nev and his crew coming to meet you, but you don't know him, the Catfish does. It would be frightening, because you don't know how much of your life the Catfish has taken. There could be totally random strangers contacting you, and some may not be as nice as Nev.
Catfishing is dangerous, simply because of the unknown consequences.  Psychopaths may lurk behind those screens, and you might not be able to tell before it's too late. There are plenty of ways to control it however. First,  a person could not broadcast their addresses online. Start there.

I also agree that Angela yearned for a more exciting life. She grew tired of not being able to chase her dreams, so she created a life where she could control mostly everything.

I totally agree on the fact she had more time to catfish Nev and make up all of these different profiles, but while she was doing that, she could've been out doing things to make her life better and to make her dreams come true.
