This film really left me thinking. I never consider the odds of being tricked into something of this sort. I wouldn't relate very much to Nev because I am not such an active social media user. However, I find it disturbing that people can actually do such things behind a screen. I wonder how many of my friends on Facebook or Instagram are actually real? This makes me want to stay away from the social media even more.
There is a possibility that those people who find the need to fake a different personality, behind the scene are truly in need of support. Maybe they do deserve a little sympathy because no one really knows how it is that they feel or why it is that they do such things. Although, it is very important to consider people's situations, it is never okay to deceive someone who gave their trust. I feel like technology should not be used as a means to build fake profiles. Technology should serve the purpose of allowing you to keep in touch with those loved ones.
Trust is a powerful bond that deserves to be kept. Whether Cat fishers recognize it or not, they are hurting others by creating false hope. As was the case with Nev. It is a two way street, the victim of cat fishing should not be too gullible. They should be careful of trusting too much; they need to consider the possibility of fraudulent profiles.
I believe connections behind the screen should not be taken into heart. People should not develop feelings for other people on the internet. Although I strongly believe that people should be TRUE to themselves when posting, I also recognize that many are careless and prefer to give false allusions. Everyone appearing to be something they are not is certainly affecting our society. People lose a sense of self in order to appeal to the contemporary culture. Today's society is at fault for presenting ideal images and oppressing those that are different. Perhaps if everyone were more accepting, there would not be a need to fit in and people would dare to be different by bringing themselves to the light!

I think you make a very good point about being cautious with social media; you never really know if that person is telling the whole truth. I also agree that while we may sympathize with the catfishers, problems in their personal lives are no excuse for lying to other people in order to manipulate them, as it is unfair to the other people involved.
I agree with you when you stated that those who need to fake a different personality may be in need of support. I think catfishing stems from insecurities. Most people catfish in order to receive acknowledgement. They believe that they need to either enhance" their looks or personality/characteristic in order to do so.
