Martha, you played yourself
In the beginning of the story Martha and Ash were depicted as the perfect couple. Ash had his flaws and martha had hers. But, that is what made them them. During the film you could really see how much they respected and depended on each other. They were starting a new life with each other in Ash’s childhood home. Just a day after they move into the new home, it is time for Ash to return the truck that they rented. Later on that day Martha finds it odd that Ash hadn’t had any sort of contact with Martha considering ash always had his face in his cell phone. Later that night the film shows the police coming up to Martha and Ash’s new home to deliver the news that Ash was not going to be returning home that night or ever. This in my opinion was the hardest of scenes to watch. I mean here was this perfect couple who were on the road to start a new chapter in their lives with each other and ash just goes and dies. Not to sound harsh but it is literally the worst timing ever. Later on in the film at Ash’s funeral, Ash’s sister starts to describe a new software that looks at all social media accounts of the deceased *email, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook* and during the whole clip of the funeral scene Martha just kind of seemed out of it. Of course this is normal behavior of someone’s whose spouse had just passed away. Later on that night Martha gets a strange text from someone who seems to be Ash. Once Martha realizes that the software’s responses are things that Ash would say she starts to let her guard down a bit. And when Martha let her guard down that is when it started to look like she was falling in love with Ash all over again. With her use of this software it was almost as if Ash was not even dead. During the duration of the interactions that she had with the Ash software, I was just like in my head “okay Martha it is time to move on Ash would have wanted you to.” I honestly feel like by engaging with this software Martha really stunted her growth in her acceptance of Ash’s passing away. But then again I can’t really even like be upset with Martha because I can only imagine how vulnerable she was. I mean there she was lonely, widowed, and pregnant. She lost herself in ash 2. This was a very unexpectedly deep film.

I agree with your point that the Ash software really hindered her grieving process. Not fully accepting Ash's passing definitely held her back and from moving on.
The Ash software definitely did way more harm than good! Now, Martha and even her daughter is exposed to becoming unable to handle even the smallest amount of grief in the future!
