Real or Fake

The term "Catfish" in America is mainly used negative way, typically by someone saying oh they're just catfishing you. The term took off due to MTV making a show about a group of guys going around America investigating who you are really talking to online. Sometimes it can turn out good and other times it can turn out horribly wrong. I feel sorry for Nev. He had to go through the whole experience just to find out that everything was fake. Sure, he might have made a friend out of it, but when he realized that everything was fake, he was shattered. I do not understand the need to Catfish, but at the same time I understand it. Catfishing is lying about yourself on the internet. Most people who I know who have a social media account lie about a few things. I lie about my age, don't post a picture alone on social media because I don't want my identity stolen.  To me and many other people in America that is not catfishing thats just lying. Catfishing there is a line when you go to far and there is no going back. You make a fake story a fake family and a fake life and trick people into liking you. If that doesn't startle you, I don't know what will considering there are multiple dating websites now dedicated for people who are looking for love. How do you know if your future spouse is really the person who he or she says they are. That makes me question is there any real aspect to catfishing? In order to even talk to someone and make them like you, you must have some sort of personality, otherwise they would probably think that you are a computer. Are there true feelings from both sides or is it all just made up? I think in order to get into a deep lie there must be feelings from both parties that are real, both parties must earn something otherwise they wouldn't talk. In the movie "Catfish" Nev had strong feelings for a girl named Megan, that is until who he found out it was all a lie. Angela Who was Megan seemed to have strong feelings for Nev as well. They were feelings of remorse, wishing that she had not settled down. Once Nev learned that it was all fake. He didn't want to talk to Angela again. His buddies made him for the films aspect. Therefor in conclusion some aspects of catfishing are very real such as, the feeling and drive to want to talk to each other. Where as other parts are extremely fake for example, Megan, and Abby.

I agree with you when feeling sorry for Nev, because who would want to invest that much time and then realize everything was a lie? What I disagree with you on is how can those emotions and feelings toward someone be so real if they do not even know the other persons true identity?
