Catfish: Angela's wrongs

Catfish documents Nev Shulman, his brother Ariel Schulman, and friend Henry Joost as they go on a trip to visit the person that Nev met through social media. One day Nev received a friend request from a young girl named Abby who then begins to make paintings out of his photographs. Intrigued Nev begins a friendly relationship with Abby and her family as they communicate about packages and Abby’s work. Nev then starts to talk to Abby’s sister Megan. Creating a stronger relationship between them. After a while of talking to Megan Nev begins to add things up that do not make sense. After trying to find answers to the things that did not add up Nev, Ariel, and Henry took it upon themselves to go to the addresses of the packages and see who Megan really was.

Once getting to their destination, Nev, Ariel, and Henry visited Abby’s home and found out that Abby’s parents were completely different from the pictures on their social media cites. Nev had also known that Abby had a brother but once getting there Nev found out that Abby had two disabled brothers. Once meeting Abby Nev had a small private conversation with her finding out the she was not artist but also that she never saw her sister Megan. After spending the who day with the family and attending dinner with them Nev decided to finally confront who he suspected which was Abby’s mom. When confronting her Nev found out that Angela, Abby’s mom, was pretending to be Megan as well as around 12 other social media friends that Megan had. Angela blamed her actions on her boredom and loneliness.

My thoughts on this is that I do not agree with what Angela did. First of all, she created so many lies but when she had the chance to admit her lie she continued hoping she could work it out. When Nev, his brother, and Nev’s friend showed up Angela kept acting like there was a Megan and that Abby was an artist. One of the awful things that Angela did was that she kept making up more lies that were used to make Nev feel bad for her. She said that she had cancer and that Megan would not be able to see him because she was in rehabilitation. She also included her innocent daughter, who had no idea of what was going on, into her lie.  She also lied to her husband by making him think that her and Nev were friends and Nev was helping them out by supporting her artworks. The worst part to me what that though she lied to Nev and broke his heart she still deep down wanted him to forgive her and somehow get a second chance with him.
