Hook on the wrong fish

The film Catfish was without a doubt a good example of paying attention to detail to who you talk to online. I personally found it humorous, but I also did get the message that the movie portrayed with the various hints given on how the characters were fake. The episode started off with Nev receiving artwork from a talented 8 year old girl by the name of Abby. Over time, Nev grew closer with Abby forming a friendship that also led to him making contacts with her family through FaceBook. Through connections of Abby's family, Nev developed a relationship with Abby's half sister, Megan. As their relationship progressed, Megan began sending audio clips of her performing several music pieces that were later found out to be taken from Youtube videos. When Nev quickly questioned her, she threw out a plethora of excuses to cover up her lies. Nev's brother Ariel whom is recording Nev's life for a documentary, urges Nev to continue on with the relationship to get to the bottom of it. To add more salt to the wound Nev exposes Angela, Abby's mom of a lie she told about Abby having her own art gallery by searching it up to be a old mall structure that was for sale. After this, they figured that confronting the family in the person would solve their questions rather than over the internet because of all the issues that caused in the first place. Along their drive they attempt to see Megan who lived in Gladstone at a barn where she said she was tending to one of her horses in labor. Using an old mail they received, Nev and his friends went to the barn only to find that no one is there and no horses were in sight. Upon seeing this, Nev knew for sure that something was up and they headed to Michigan for the big pop up at Angela's house.
When Nev first arrived at the family's house they took a while before opening their door and when they saw Angela, Nev instantly knew this was not the same woman from FaceBook or Abby's "paintings". Angela then drove Nev and the others to a beach house where they met Abby and one of her friends. There is where Abby revealed that she barely sees Megan and that she never really paints. On the next day, Megan texted Nev explaining that she had a drug problem and that she was going into rehab that would prevent her from seeing him, but Nev knew this was one of Angela's tricks. Later that day at Angela's house, she told Nev the truth about her scheme. It turns out she didn't know the woman who posed as with Megan and that she was the one really doing the paintings not Abby. She broke down explaining that she threw away her dream of art for marriage and caring for her husband, Vince mentally disabled children. Before leaving Nev had a one on one talk with Vince, where Vince told a tale about how cod were shipped with catfish to keep the fish fresh. He related the story to Angela because he saw as her someone who kept people's perception of her "fresh" and always keeping people thinking. The episode ended with Nev receiving a painting Angela did on him while on his visit there. The episode then cut to text on the screen showing Angela's plot and the truth and that she deactivated all her accounts and now only has hers, where her and Nev are still friends. What I got most out of this film is that you must always pay attention to detail when associating with others over internet.
