Who is the Real Monster?
Any time a monster commits a crime against the innocent and vulnerable it makes rage surface across communities. Every one hates the criminal they want them to suffer or at least "pay" for what they did. Although I do agree that people should go to jail for horrendous crimes and have limited freedoms as a result, I do not agree with allowing us to turn into those same monsters. Even though we were shown White Bear from a point of view where we would feel for Victoria, I still belief she is a criminal. However, I do not agree with the psychological abuse that they repeatedly put her through. Through out the episode you can see her brain giving up. The toll that her body and mind has taken is obvious. I think that if a person is going to be punished for their crime they have every right to know why they are being punished. I think that Victoria should definitely face the consequences of her actions or should I say lack of actions, but we should not repeat her actions. Two wrongs do not make a right. Allowing for this type of punishment can only further open the door to the darker side of humans. How are we to justify this type of torturing and not other types? What deems certain type of torture valid and not others? I think these are some important questions that come up with this psychological torture. How are we going to allow this type of abuse and where would we draw the line after this. Prisons should help rehabilitate people. We as a community should help people become less of monsters not become monsters ourselves. Our humanity allows us the opportunity to forgive those who are truly remorseful. I think there is room here to argue that Victoria showed some of these signs. She was suffering for that little girl. She thought that little girl was her daughter. Even though this does not validate her doing nothing, it shows that she feels pain and regrets it. I am not saying she should have been freed and all forgiven; what I am saying is that she should be given the chance to try to become a better person. Not purposely shocked every night like an animal for the amusement of the society because they think it is a fair punishment. What if we stopped giving people the opportunity to better themselves? What if when you were younger and say you stole something society ruled that your hand should be cut off. I think our communities need to find ways to rehabilitate people from their horrors of their sick minds. Now, this does not mean that the person should be released back into society. It just means that our humanity is define by how we treat others, even those who do not deserve it.

I totally agree with your commentary. I would like to argue that while I believe that jail is very ineffective the way Victoria was treated and punished is clearly not an effective alternative. The physical and mental trauma she went is something I would not wish upon my worst enemies. All the spectators in my eyes did just as a much a crime as Victoria. They walked around and recorded the punishment of this woman without any intervention.
What they are doing is even worse than the death penalty, or well it seems that way. Victoria is being put through some of the worst torture imaginable. She is going to die regardless like you said, you can already see the side effects that the shocking is doing to her brain. It is only a matter of time before her body gives up, and from we see in the episode she is not even being treated properly, such as being feed, etc.
