The episode White Bear was very eerie. A woman is believed to be responsible for the murder of a young girl. Because of this, the woman is subjected to repeated days of hunting and fear. While the dominating idea of the general public was that the murderer deserved this treatment, the morality of this punishment is very troubling.
It appears that the protagonist clearly suffers from some kind of mental disorder. This is what is stated in the episode, however, it makes me question if the attitude of the protagonist reflects a disorder. There is no doubt that she was not fully there in the head. Nevertheless, considering the conditions that she was subjected to, I dare to say that most people would demonstrate similar behavior. She was electrocuted and somehow brainwashed to restart what seems like a game to the other people. The woman is able to recollect flashbacks of people and events at times, which causes her to be filled with anxiety. Her questioning of the behavior of other people and the desire to figure out what is going on does not give a valid reason for mental disorder. If anything, the other people filming and dressing up are mentally damaged.
Under no circumstance can a human being be subjected to this kind of torture. Murderer or not, this game dehumanized the woman. She was chased and hunted like an animal. Like it or not, murderers and the mentally ill are still people. They should be treated as such. Humans should be tried and convicted when committing crimes. Of this there is no question. However, the punishment should be just and proper. We must do our best to ensure that the punishment is adequate to the human race.
I was really against the idea of this game. The creators of it planned out a whole arena for the character and it seemed very real. Being chased all over town like that with no reaction from the people around her other than to video record the action must be frightening. I think that the worse of all was the character who played as an accomplice to the woman. I imagine the woman classifying her "friend" as perhaps the only person she could trust. And at the end, this person turned on her and was one more of everyone who was behaving in an inexplicable manner. The loneliness and confusion that the person must have felt is traumatizing.

I agree with you on the fact that murderers such as Victoria should be tried and convicted justly and that the way that they punished her was inhumane. I want to know what you think the best way to handle her crime. Should she be rehabilitated, even though she herself committed such a heinous crime? Or should she just be executed since any other course of action would be detrimental?
I agree with your argument that even though she committed a terrible crime that she still deserves to be treated fairly and not tortured everyday of her life.
