Plenty of Catfish in the Sea

There's nothing wrong with wanting to show the best version of yourself online. People do this by only posting flattering and tasteful pictures. There are many instances in which a person would refrain from posting something online due to their job or some affiliation with an organization, even if there was nothing bad in it. On the other hand, there's catfishing. Until recently, the term catfish never existed. It is often a term used to describe a person that lies about their identity and falsely portrays themselves online. In the catfish documentary, Nev was catfished by a woman who created a  fake family and involved her child in order to maintain a relationship with him. As the documentary progresses and Nev begins to find out the truth, I feel bad for Nev and no sympathy for the woman who is misleading him.
When Nev goes to meet the woman, named Angela, he finds out that she lied about almost everything. Angela told the truth regarding her having two daughters. Unfortunately, Abby had never heard of Nev and her other daughter had been gone for a while. Nev never talked to her. The entire time the mother was the one having a romantic relationship with Nev and painting him pictures. Upon Nev's arrival, the woman acted as if nothing was wrong and continued to keep up her lie, and even came up with new ones. These acts made me more and more upset at her. It was as if she didn't feel any guilt for lying.
Angela's life was revealed and I began to feel bad for her. She did not accomplish her dreams and lived a challenging life raising two disabled children. She did not have positive surroundings and I could see that her relationship with Nev helped her through that. Many times when people are catfish they lie because of some sort of insecurity they have within themselves. Some just want to escape their lives and become some one else. Regardless of the reason, catfishing is still wrong. I feel that Angela did not have to lie. Not only did she involve Nev's feelings, she brought her young daughter into her story and she lied about having cancer and having an alcoholic daughter. I believe that she could've simply sent him paintings as Angela and developed a friendship with Nev without catfishing him.

I agree with you that Angela shouldn't have lied to such an extent and include people that didn't know that they were being used.

I especially agree with the part about involving her children in her lies. If she is going to do wrong and lie and deceive, then she should not include her progeny in her foolery.
