The Disappointment

The short film Be Right Back, shows the life of Martha after she loses her partner Ash and how it is changed by a bizarre new technology. When her friend tells her about the option of having the chance to talk to Ash again Martha gets really upset with her. Once she finds out that she is pregnant, it shows how lonely and sad she feels, which I think led her to opening the email and seeing how the new technology worked. I also think Martha is the victim in this circumstance. I don't think she was ungrateful, but in pain and looking for a way to bring back the love of her life. Which is what she felt made her life complete.

I do not think she was being selfish, she just wanted to be happy. We do a lot of things that are selfish but Martha didn't think she was hurting anyone by trying out the online service. If she was hurting anyone it would be herself. When she first begins to talk on the phone with Ash 2 it seemed fine but when it got to the point when she dropped her phone and started crying and freaking out, shocked me. She was treating the phone, well his voice as if it was really him. It was even more shocking when she orders the robot that looked like him. She had very high expectations with the robot but at the end she is very disappointed because it was not what she was thinking. Of course Ash 2 was not going to act like Ash 1, he was programmed and did not actually have feelings.

I think the blame goes to the maker of the program, and that Martha is a victim  I think that technology urges on vulnerable people, and although Ash 2 is not the real Ash, and Martha knows this, she cannot get herself to leave something that is so human and so close to the one she loved. She was grieving and weak, and the company who sold her Ash 2 for such a high price aims for that.

I honestly think it is exactly what would happen if this technology was available today.I think the healthier way to grieve would be the way we have always done it, have our friends and family to help us get through it. I think this episode shows how precious and one of a kind a human life is.

Híjole! I completely agree with your post. I think it was at the point after she found out she was pregnant that Martha decided to try the service, since she was very vulnerable and depressed after Ash's death. Good work!
