Who Are You Again?

Through the film catfish, we saw a woman create an entirely fictional family. It was sad to see the reasons why she did it. Low confidence, self-esteem, and a lack of attention were all reasons to why she made these fake profiles. She seemed to really hate who she was enough to believe that to be better, she had to be someone else. I believe it was wrong of her to lie to so many people. Yet I can see why she did it. She made a young man fall in love with her fake image while already having a husband. I am also a big believer in staying true to yourself. If you can not be honest to who you are or what you want your entire life is going to be a big mess and it will eventually crumble down. Lies are never good. They are always discovered. I also found it wrong the way she used other people's identities. Those people had no idea that somewhere else there was a person claiming to be them. My favorite part was when she took someone's cover as her own. I thought that was the most obvious thing she did. I believe that if she had not done that she may not have been caught as soon as she did. I feel bad for the woman because she had no self-esteem in her own skin. The only way she could say the things she said or do the things she did was by pretending to be someone different. Her husband seemed to not really care much about her. I think that he should have been in charge of making sure she felt confident enough and loved enough to be herself. From my perspective, you fall in love with someone because of who they are, and that gives the other person confidence to be who they are. Her husband did not bring out that confidence. She reflected a deep emptiness in her life. That emptiness should not be in anyone's life but it still does not excuse her actions. She hurt a lot of people even if it was unintentional. She should have had some sense to know that a fake profile family was no good news.

I like how you pointed out that she must have low confidence and self esteem to carry out such a complex scheme. I agree with that. Also, you mentioned the fact that she has a husband already, and I thought the show somewhat pushed that to the side and didn't seem to show how wrong that is. If I was him I would be mad to say the least.
