The episode "Catfish" was very uninteresting to me and didn't see anything coming yet. I seriously thought some kind of relationship was going to be formed between Yaniv and the little girl, and not just a friendship.
In this episode, Angela did Yaniv really wrong. Yaniv started feeling for someone who didn't exist. Even the person he thought who she was, Angela, was nothing like what he pictured. I feel like this is a lot more common now on social media. Some cases can be really serious. In Angela's case, she just wanted to be friends with Yaniv, and she started a fake profile to try and attract him into her because she clearly did not feel "good enough" for him to even talk to her for who she was. In other cases, this can be serious because kidnapers have done this to lure kids, teens and even adults to them and only do them so wrong.
I am sure that there are tons of reasons why people might do this, but those two are my top two reasons. I believe people, like Angela, just do not have a high self-esteem so they make up "characters" of what they wish they would look like or what they might think others find attractive. This ultimately does not help them at all. Even though they like the attention they receive, at the end they will have to reveal themselves and will only end up in the same place as they started. They should really start appreciating themselves for who they are and not let social media guide them to what they should be. My other reason for catfishing, is simply to do harm. People, specially teens, can be so easily deceived and manipulated and others will take advantage of that in order to please themselves.
Another side reason I'd say people do this would be plainly for entertainment. The other day I saw on t.v. an 11 year old who dropped out of school to take care of her sick mom. With no one else by her side she was lonely. She started a fake profile, someone fell in love with her, and even flew in from another state only to find out it was all a scam. She did this twice and she found it amusing. She did get caught and went to jail but says she never regretted it and would even do it again. I say this was a result due to the lack of connections with kids her age.
At the end of the day you can not trust everyone on social media, this definitely causes trust issues because just when someone gets comfortable with another person, they show their true colors and you see that they are a totally different person to which they claimed to be.

We were giving each other looks during the beginning of the film because neither of us thought this was getting anywhere, but man were we taken by surprise. This wasn't your typical documentary that I had in mind. It is sad to think that people feel the need to present a fake version of themselves. Everyone is special in my opinion, as long as they recognize their value. Angela clearly had some work to do, but she should not be swallowed by what society demands.
