WTF: Technology Is Starting To Scare Me Alot...

The short film, Be Right Back,  presented to us on Wednesday left me frightened. It started off with a couple, Martha and Ash, having a normal night in the cozy home. The next day took a slight turn left down WTF avenue. Ash died in what is thought to be a car wreck and Martha is left to grieve his death, alone and pregnant. Sounds quite pleasant right? And all in all, the storyline is quite decent. The funeral goes by and in a couple of days, Martha is introduced to a software where she can talk to her deceased partner, Ash. It starts off innocent which is okay but a little weird, but then shit gets worse. This lady gets an android robot, which uses electrolytes to become an almost real human, shipped to her house. This new individual is what we call Ash 2. Ash 2 does whatever is asked of him (that Ash 1 would do). Martha takes it to the next level and has sex with the robot! Sex with the robot! This is NOT grieving and it is not normal. She took it to far with this and it completely creeped me out. Martha is one out-of-the-box female. After seeing that, I was completely done with this film. Ash 1 and Ash 2 are completely different to me. They have distinct differences such as how long they last during sex, wittiness, and emotions. She clearly sees this and it changes her entire attitude towards the end of the film. She tried so hard to make Ash 2 like Ash 1 but, she didn’t realize she was making it harder for herself and it could never be done. As much as she wanted them to be similar it would never happen! Her selfishness stressed her out and almost made her lose her insanity. This has made me realize you can’t replace everything that goes away because it might not turn out how you want it to. How would I cherish the memories of my partner if I knew I could just turn over in the morning and look at his identical robot?  MAN.. Martha even went as far as keeping Ash 2 for her daughter to interact with. This leads me to believe that in the future it is normal to replace anything that is lost even though it may or may not make the situation better.

I agree that Martha shouldn't have had sex with Ash 2, and in the end things only got worse for her, but I think that keeping Ash 2 for her daughter could be a good thing and a bad thing. Her daughter would be curious to know what her father would've been like, Ash 2 would've been a good example for her to have in her mind, but keeping it so that she can just interact with it every weekend is where the line should be drawn. I t just seems really creepy to take it to that level.

I truly hope that in the future we take into consideration how our morals might shift as we progress in society. Because right now i do not think I like where we are heading.

Yea when I mentioned the scene in which Martha had sex with Ash 2 as well. I'm starting to think that the scene had more significance than we think it does. Either that, or the writer of that episode is just mentally unstable!
