A New life with Social Media

In the movie Catfish, a New York photographer by the name of Nev Shulman has been receiving paintings from a little girl named Abby. He has made a huge connection with this little girl by purchasing paintings from her family. As the movie continued he realize he has never met this little girl.  Nev started an online relationship with Abby's family. Initially, he had no clue about who they really are in person.
Eventually, his greatest regret was getting too attached to Abby's sister named Megan. Nev and Megan were getting to know each other on social media, but soon enough it gradually grew much more. The moment Nev realize that Megan was lying about her songs being truly hers, he started to doubt her as a person. He started to have many suspicions about Abby's family. First, he looked up Abby's art galleria in Michigan that was supposedly hers but turns out to be false information.

Therefore, Nev decided to take a trip down to Michigan to find out the truth about Abby's family. He first went to look at Megan's farm that wasn't actually hers at all. Later on in the day, he met Angela Abby's mother that had no similarities to the painting of her. He started to add up all the false information he received throughout the time they communicated. Essentially, Angela was the mastermind of this whole scheme. She was the painter instead of Abby and was Nev's lover Megan.

AThe concept of catfish can impact a person life tremendously. In Angela's opinion, it was a way to escape her reality of life that was not so great. In Nev's opinion, she was hiding who she truly was because she was afraid of her true identity. Also, the idea of Catfish can be related to a drug where you consume it to escape reality. The thing that surprised me the most is that she took dedication to achieve a successful new life on social media. Initially, the power that social media gave us can do more than just communicate to friends, in fact, it gave Angela a "new life". I believe she saw it as a way to create the lifestyle she could never achieve. It was a cruel way to sale her paintings. I wonder if the main plan for her scheme was to sale her paintings as Abby because she knew no one would buy them if she told them her true identity.  It's surprising that a little girl can paint so well, maybe it made her painting more valuable. If so she has gone too far in the scheme when she became Megan Nev's lover.
