Hippie Theory

I believe that punishment should be rehabilitative because everyone has a tendency to revert back to their natural selves. Because of this tendency, everyone should be prompted to restore their moral to its original state : goodness.

You can see examples of this reversion in everyday nature. When you spray a lawn with weird blue chemicals, it eventually turns green again. When you flat iron curly hair it eventually curls back up.When you die your body returns back to the earth. Everything reverts back to its original state.
So why is the human psyche not treated the same way ?

This assumption may raise the question : what is good and what is bad, and are humans really born “ good “ or “ evil”?
For centuries we have debated this.
In the west the trending theory is  that every soul is born in sin has become the general answer.
I do not agree with this claim. I think that when we were born our bodies were naturally healthy and our soul was naturally pure, but that over time due to the shifts in political and social priority ( ie ; repetitively showing violence on the news instead of all that is good in the world) we become influenced by these “ sinful “ energies.
Of course I am not saying that the media is to blame for all that is evil in the world. Parents and surroundings have a large influence on whether or not a person’s mind evolves into a hateful state of being that americans are projected to have , or if it stays overall “ pure”.
I am also not saying that there is a person that is immune to these transformations.

I AM saying that I think that the idea of a pure mind has been misconstrued in the media, which is a very big reason why punishment has been made punitive in the united states.

Purity is often equated with charity and other material acts of kindness that some people just don’t have the means to express. Purity is also equated with that person’s ability to survive comfortably ( eating enough, having a home, having all one may need to survive in that moment)  while following the laws given to them by their government,  which is not the case for many people.
Is the person that has to steal to feed their family “ evil “ just because stealing is illegal?
Is the person that steals what is stolen from them immoral ?
