The Face Behind the Screen
Well this week's discussion was pretty interesting. To open up the week with watching a video on a guy being "Catfished" was pretty interesting. To start off the video was rather interesting. This mystery person suddenly came out the blue sending paintings in which it seemed to be from a little girl named Abby. The little girl seemed to be 7 years old and for someone of that age level, she was pretty talented. Abby seemed to be obsessed with the main character Nev. Now Nev was just a guy who had some friend who just decided to do a documentary on him and see where it goes and that's how the videos come into effect. Now this little girl has a "sister" who is very attracted to Nev and they develop a type of relationship where Nev is deeply invested. The sister also came out to be a singer and even "wrote" some songs for Nev. Now if you noticed I made a few quotations and I know I am cutting and butchering this story, but it'll make sense later on. Nev soon got a job offer for a Photo shoot close to where Abby and the Sister Megan lives. Of course the name of the movie is Catfish, so this happy story has to take a bad turn somewhere. I believe that point is now. The songs that was sent to Nev were investigated by his friends and they noticed that they were similar to already published songs. Soon 2 and 2 started to equal 4 and they were on to them. So fast- forward the timeline and they decided to do a face to face meeting and well they arrived to the house and was meet with the Abby's mother, but Megan was out and Abby was with her friend. Nev decided to take the ride to go see Abby and when questioning her, he finally realized that it all was a lie. Abby was not a talented painter, Megan was just an illusion. It was all just the mother posing as them. She went through great lengths to make this false life and social life. Creating many social media accounts by just taking random people's picture and possibly endangering them, just for the fun and longing to talk to this one guy over social media. This movie was relatable because many people pose this false life over social media and make things seem as if they are not. Keeping everyone on the edge as to who is who and what is real and who is a Catfish
