Was Catfish Necessary? Did It Help Anyone?

Catfish really throws me off. It is a documentary about Nev getting catfish by this woman who may or may not be mentally ill or some type of disturbed, but it just puts so many thoughts in my mind about catfishing. It is shocking that Nev took so much interest in this girl in the first place. Honestly, when I found out that “Abby” continued to send more pictures to him I thought it was odd. When Nev starts to talk to her mom and sister as well I thought it was even more odd. Here this guy is taking so much interest in this girl that he has never met but also never really talked to for however many months and then he starts to take interest in all the family members. It was unnecessary. Nev should have been a little more concerned about how involved he was with this family. It was too much for him too try date the daughter Megan. He had never met her or had a vocal conversation with her. I know that in this age of technology that these types of things are not relevant anymore, but it is just a thought that should have crossed his mind. Even in this time there are ways to tell if a person is real or not, like checking Instagram, Snapchat, or any other social media. But what kind of person starts trying to date the sister of the girl he is basically a mentor to. I know it is possible, but he never met anyone. It was unnecessary to be so involved with the family after seeing Abby’s artwork – or whose ever artwork it was. Truthfully, this documentary could have went to a different cause about catfishing. There are different types of catfishing if you think about. Catfishing like Nev went through were a random person leads you on an emotional roller of lies and deceit. Another form of catfishing might be financial lies and deceit were someone pretends to be someone else to take money from someone. I wonder if the documentary could have made more change if it had been about not just exposing Angela. If there had been an actual cause for the documentary it probably helped other people know about catfishing. It probably did help people spot and be more cautious about people who may be trying to catfish them. But that is just my opinion.
