Homeless final project overview
The Homeless project presented today in class which is determined to help decrease the amount of homeless people around the United States would be a great asset to not only the United States but in specific to Memphis, TN. In my opinion the reason why Memphis, TN has a large crime percentage is due to the poverty in Memphis, TN. This Project will not necessarily get rid of poverty within the United States but it will help those who are currently homeless which essentially aids poverty in an indirect way. From previous experiences I have heard testimonials from other sources who are currently homeless. Within their testimony they have mentioned that at times they are really hungry and just in need of somewhere to sleep. This encourages them to just do anything such as stealing something so that they can be taken to jail. Which being in jail is not the most pleasant place to be but when being hungry and in the streets with nowhere to sleep jail is the best option. they mentioned, "At least while being in jail someone will know if I wake up or not, I will have somewhere to sleep, and something to eat." Which as a human being it sounds as something understandable. I feel like the idea of this project if extended to 3-4 months and still without losing contact with the homeless people it would be a great aspect to the community. At times, something we all need is just someone to extend their hand to us and help us get back on our in feet instead of denying us everything. Many argue that many homeless people are still young and able to work but they are asking for money. Something that they do not take a look at is the fact that 99.9% of the time they are denied a job due to their appearance. Even if they do have the skills and will be a great asset to the community they are denied the opportunity just because they are homeless their attire. This would be a great opportunity also if their are workshops available which will provide them with things to prepare themselves for an interview. From the way they should dress to filling out the job applications. Also, perhaps adding mock interviews to prepare them individually. Maybe a great addition to the facility where the homeless can walk in is having a room where kids from the different homes they provide could go in and do homework. Perhaps even adding one computer in that room where someone, just one person, could be there to help them with homework or printing off something for them. This will encourage the kids to continue with their education and not get discouraged by the situation their family is currently going through. Since at many times during these hard times kid's are going through a hard time in their lives seeing how their parents are going through this hard situation. This project will be a great asset to the Memphis community and it will decrease the number of our poverty. Sometimes we just expect poverty to decrease but we are not doing anything in specific to help those who are going through poverty.
