The homeless presentation was really good. I think the idea
concerning the solution is very realistic. The fact that the organization does
not start off with very many houses is smart because these houses have to be
funded. This is a great way to start your mission while still making an impact.
The organization does not mean to take every single homeless person off the
streets, they are merely starting off at a low number and making an impact on a
couple of people’s lives. As the organization picks up experience and resources
they can look to expand. The fact that the organization provides a tablet is
also very effective in that, while some homeless people do have access to
technology, not everyone does. By having a tablet available that helps to open
doors for those who are less fortunate.
I also enjoyed the fact that there is a time limit on staying
in your facilities. By making it known to the occupier of the space that there
is a time limit, hopefully that will make them more dedicated to whatever
system you set up for them as far as finding a job and making a living. By
having jobs or contacts ready, you can minimize wasting time finding a job
while they are living in the house. You could even do it to where as you are
interviewing a selective few, you are low-key already pairing them up with a
job, that way as soon as they move in they already have a place to work.
You provide transportation for the people, contact with a
food pantry, as well as a weekly stipend. Along with the job, this should
minimize costs and help them earn some money. Maybe by providing them with a
little more time to stay in the home you could allow them some time to save up
money to fall back on. I assume the jobs that will most likely be given to the
people in your program are low salary, perhaps minimum wage. It would make
sense for them to have some time to save up so that they do not arrive to the
point where they are living paycheck to paycheck. With that being said,
however, I think the time limit is fantastic. I think your group isn’t meant to
be 100% a charity or a place to hang out and get comfortable, rather it is
meant to be a place where people who have been unlucky can get back into
society with some incredible assistance. Fantastic work!
