In Too Deep

When the documentary starts out, Nev is corresponding with a family half way across the country that he has never met. He falls in love with Abby's artwork and proceeds to fall in love with the older sister, Megan. Nev then puts the pieces together and finds out that Angela, the mother, is doing the artwork and pretending to be Megan. Angela is now seen as a crazy, middle aged woman who has a crush on Nev.

At what point in time did "cat fishing" become a problem? The growing epidemic of editing pictures or even pretending to be an entirely different person has skyrocketed in the recent decade. The increase in cat fishing is directly related to the increasing availability of technology. Every middle schooler has a smart phone, and almost anyone can get online and find a editing program to give themselves more attractive features. Angela had the technology of Facebook a decade ago when the documentary was filmed. Just imagine what some with tech skills could do in today's internet softwares - frightening. With the recent development of dating apps like Tinder and Bumble what is stopping someone from making fake profiles and luring individuals? Cat fishing is an all-too-real problem and it will only get worse.

I agree that the availability of technology has facilitated people to take a part in "cat fishing". It is amazing to see the extent that this has been taking to.
