The Alter Ego

As our technology advances it is noticeable that so does any risk or opportunity that comes with it advances too. Thus, including the risk of being catfished or being the catfish-er in our generation. For our generation it’s nothing uncommon to do or be a victim of a Catfish.
As we went over Angela and Nev’s case of catfishing I found it interesting how far Angela was going along with her lies and adding more and more to it. It seemed interesting at first how the story began to build up and how all these people got involved in to Angela’s plot. What seemed more interesting was how Nev began to fall for it easily believing that this pretty girl was so talented yet somehow overrated by all her talents. It wasn’t until they started piecing information together that led him to get curious about who this person really was.
When Nev began to piece the information together and find out she was lying about bits and pieces I began to wonder why she would do this and whether to feel embarrassment or sympathy for her. I felt anxious when he showed up at her house because I wanted to know how the girl would react and what would go down. When Angela opened the door and tried to be slick about her reaction to Nev showing up, I had a feeling it was her. When she let them come and introduced them to her husband, her sick boys, and two daughters I somewhat felt some sympathy for her.
As they went to the beach house I was curious to see where this Megan girl was and what she looked like but there was no sign of her instead it was just Angela and the two girls. As Nev began to uncover more and confront her I felt embarrassed for her because I wonder what other lie she would come up with to cover all this but surprisingly she spoke up about it.
However, in the end I felt sympathy for Angela because I saw her situation and the life she got herself with the sick boys and how she never got to be a professional dancer. Perhaps she catfished to escape her reality and have a different life each time. With all the people she got involved in to Nev’s conversation, it’s almost as if those are her imaginary friends where they all do something great with their lives and she feels a part of a class in society. To me it seems like it’s her alter ego of how she wants her life to be instead of how she lives now but I feel like she’s mentally ill because of how she lies to people and even her husband who’s not really conscious of what goes on.

I was right there with you, curious and eager to learn more the entire time up until we finally learned who the catfish was. After that, I was still curious when we were going to finally hear the word "catfish" itself.

But should Angela's life be used as a justification for what she did. We all go through things back at home but that still does not give us the right to catfish anyone. For all we know sympathy is exactly what Angela was looking for. People can use social media as an escape from reality without having to catfish someone.
