The concept of the Uncanny Valley has plagued humans for years. As technology has progressed, people have started to make robots with an uncanny appearance to humans. For example in the movie Avatar the alien like creatures looked very human-like due to the special effects. But sometimes technology can go too far when it comes to making robots with human features. The robots that they are creating in Japan, appear to be humans but are actually robots. This is very unsettling to me. I think people should stop focusing on creating robots that have human-like features. We do not need this in our society, as we already have living, breathing people in the world today. Human beings are able to convey their emotions and express themselves, while robots cannot. This is why it is extremely weird to me to see a robot physically look like a human.
As I was watching the short film, I was even more reminded that technology can go too far when it comes to making robots with human-like features. Martha who was grieving the loss of her boyfriend, Ash, was able to find comfort with this type of technology that allowed her to talk to her deceased boyfriend and she was even able to create a robot that looked like him and felt human. She started to become obsessed with it and ignored the world around her. The only problem with this creation was that it had no emotions or feelings like a real person would. It could not comfort her when she was sad or feel empathy. It was just a machine that looked like her deceased boyfriend. Martha started to have problems with this robot because all it could do was give methodical, mechanical responses, however, she wanted it to act like her deceased boyfriend, Ash. In this movie I felt that this kind of technology is stepping out of line because no one should be able to create a replica of someone else, especially if they are deceased. I feel if this was actually a real thing then it would cause many people to have mental breakdowns because they would be obsessed with a robot that doesn't have any emotions. This is why there is a very thin line in the Uncanny Valley between robots and technology that have some human-like features such as R2D2, which most people think is appropriate. Then you have the extreme opposite side of the spectrum which has robots looking exactly like human beings and even behaving like them. I believe that people should not be allowed to create technology like this because it would create havoc and chaos in our society, eventually causing some people to become emotionally unstable.

I agree with the fact that it is odd that people strive to make human-like looking and functioning robots. What is the true reason for creating robots that look like humans because in reality there is no need to have robots that look like humans because robots are just another technology created by the genius of society it just needs the be functional there is no reason to create a robot that looks like a human because it can be just as functional with many uses in today's society that do not require a robot to have a human-like appearance.
