Is She Happy?

First off, this short film was something that was completely out of the ordinary and incredibly creepy. In the beginning of the short story when the two were talking about the picture of the young Ash and how his mother put every photo of someone who died in the attic showed great foreshadow and comparison to the end of the film when Martha kept the mechanical Ash in the attic. When the original Ash was talking about how his mother kept the picture of young Ash's fake smile and how his attitude as he talked about her was as though he was sad that she had done those things. Then in the ending scene, Martha was keeping the "fake" Ash as well. One would think that Martha would remember the last night that she spend with her husband vividly, and I think that she understood what her husband would have thought of her creating the fake Ask at the end and was very unhappy with her decision.
When Martha's friend Sara was talking to her at the funeral and told her about the fake Ash, Martha's negative reaction was to the idea was clearly expressed. Her solution of having him talk to her over the computer and phone was something so little for it was easy to see videos and to hear his voice that she could handle having the connection with the fake Ash. However, she was not getting over the grieving process for she was just putting it off because she was communicating to the fake Ash. She knew that it was the fake Ash she was talking to however, she was still uncertain that it was okay to talk to him especially when they were talking on the phone. She knew that the fake ash was just saying what the original Ash had already said on any of his social networks/videos/emails or if he had just looked it up on the internet. She was clearly showing that she was not doing any healthy grieving nor was she completely happy, because when she was walking out from her ultrasound, she dropped her phone and completely lost it like she was experiencing the original Ash's death again. When Martha had activated the body of fake Ash, she was so shocked and not happy about the results and was searching to confirm that the fake could do everything that the real Ash could do. Yes, the sex was better in the film with the fake Ash then the real Ash, however that is not the only thing that makes up a relationship. A human person that will fight back and has actually life experience that can take care and have those normal human characteristics such as breathing and blinking. Martha was starting to get so angry at the fake Ash that she knew that she could never have that connection or same relationship with him for he was not the original Ash and never will be. She was not happy with her decision and nor would anyone else be in her situation.

I agree Jessica, I don't think Martha was happy with her choice but I do think she was satisfied with the sense of trying to reconnect with her husband but then realize it will never be the real relationship that she and Ash had.

If Martha decided to let her sister help her cope with her loss, it would have been a different story. She completely skip the grieving process which led her to Ash2. It'was too late when she notice that Ash2 was the wrong solution to her problem. I believe that family and friends can make a huge impact on this type of situation. Is understandable that losing a love one is hard and painful. But we can't isolate from those who loves us during hard times.

I agree with you. I think she was scared to go through the grieving process alone, so she tried to mask her feelings by engaging with Ash 2 and this snowballed into an unhealthy way of grieving. She didn't know how far she would end up taking it when she first communicated with Ash 2. Once he reached the low point in the uncanny valley she realized that this was not going to make her happy.
