Transcending into the real world.

After watching Be Right Back it made me realize how technology is constantly revolutionizing our society. I certainly believe we were created with a purpose in life and with free will. On this case, Martha suffered a tremendous loss in which she need it support in order to move on. Consequently, they offered her the option of bringing Ash back physically supported on artificial intelligence. I’m trying to understand her reasons for bringing Ash back, but from any point of view is morally wrong simply because she is trying to fulfill that emptiness with something that is unreal and lacks of feelings. For me it’s disrespectful towards Ash1, even though he was completely focus in his own world and social media. At that point, Ash1 was being himself, a selfish partner. However, Ash2 was much attentive to her and better than the original; consequently, he lacks of feelings, motivations and common sense. On the other hand, she does not feel alone anymore, but it annoys her that she has to be constantly telling Ash2 what to do where the real Ash would had act differently. Ash2 is just a shadow and constant reminder of Ash1, it’s physical present and real, but not the same. Is very ironic how Ash1 was constantly focus on his social media, while in the other hand, Ash2 was focus on pleasing and helping Martha. Thanks to technology, we can live longer and better. Therefore, everything can be good as longest it’s used within the limits, once we cross that path is no longer good. With life comes death, whether we like it or not and we need to accept it as it comes. Sadly, we are not far from this type of technology. The 3D printer just came out few weeks ago, this is probably just the beginning of it. Who knows what is next, but I really hope we are far enough from creating an artificial human being. This world is already chaotic enough in order to add this type of technology to our daily problems. Martha suffered the loss of Ash1, while suffering the presence of Ash2. This was the creepiest movie I ever seen before. After seeing Martha drop Ash2 in the bathtub and later walking down the stairs, was probably the weirdest scene in the entire movie. I hope I live many years, and only the necessary, but is not up to me to decide when enough is enough. One thing is for sure, death and we cannot escape from it.

I agree with your comment on having limits on technology, but at the same time, having an artificial human being wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. It all depends on what kind of artificial human they are. Since they are programmed, it is not the product we should be worrying about, but the producer. If one produces an evil or destructive artificial human, then the person that made it should be responsible.

I think that the biggest issue with Ash2 is that it is impossible to simply emulate the human experience based simply off of how one behaves online. One of the most important things that Ash2 was missing was the past family trauma that Ash1 had to deal with: losing his brother, Jack, and having to pretend to be happy for his mother's sake. Ash2 was not allowed to have his own experiences, nor was he able to understand Ash1's, so I personally think that our inability to make humans that can copy one another should not avert us from one day making artificial humans. In fact, I think that we should find it reassuring that we can rest easy knowing that an acquaintance of ours hasn't been successfully replaced by an artificial being.
