The film "Be Right Back" posed many questions regarding technology and its advancement. It is evident that technology is progressing day by day. Each generation is now being raised and highly exposed to technology. As they continue to grow, they expect machinery to evolve to supply their demands. In the case of our film, the electronic world made striking strides in its evolvement. So much so that human-like robots look, move, talk, and breath just like humans. The main character, Martha, uses a robot to cope with the death of her boyfriend Ash. It began somewhat innocently with simply texting robot Ash, then progressed to phone calls, and finally the physical version of Ash. Personally. I do not think that it is creepy to have a robot like that; however, I believe that using it to stay in contact with the deceased is frightening. When someone passes away, their chapter has ended. It is very creepy to keep around a robot that mimics who the dead are.
Similarly, I think that it is very cool to see human-like robots functioning as humans. Instead of attempting to reconnect with the deceased, why not just make another humanbot and give it its own database. This is both exciting and very dangerous. Someone could try to recreate Hitler or give the robot an immoral database. Then the government would began to regulate humanbot manufactures with strict laws. Not to mention the robot apocalypse that would put us all in doom.
Instead of venturing off to humanbots, I think that we should stick to our androids, laptops, televisions, and etc. There is too much potential for downfall when dealing with humanbots. If humanbots do not sleep and get tired, then why would humans be necessary? Mammals are necessary for life, not machinery. Although electronics are very helpful and efficient, they are not essential for our survival. I do enjoy my phone, television, gps, and everything alike, but there was a time when humans did not have that equipment.
To clarify, I am not stating that we should do away with all of our electronics, I just believe that we should steer away from exploring humanbots. There is a great about risk associated with humanbots. Many people can find themselves in circumstances like Martha in “Be Right Back” and such situations are not healthy for mankind. If we do not prepare ourselves for the imminent advancements in mechanics, we could find ourselves in a technology crisis.

I agree with your opinion on using robots to help grieve. I feel as though this, as it did for Martha, only leads the person to believe that the deceased is alive. If someone were to use this robot to grieve, the robot would only take the permanent place of the person instead of helping them to move on. Also, if robots were used to aid in grieving, then nobody would ever grieve; most people would compromise with a robot. On the other hand, I do think that it is a bad idea to neglect robot exploration altogether. Though I, as you do too, have many concerns and speculations about artificial intelligence, there is still much to be discovered. The idea of not exploring it altogether is quite absurd. That would be like saying to not eat because 13.7 people die each year from choking on food. There will always be someone evil in society that wants to take technology and use it negatively. The way I look at it is that if we explore and understand it, when someone does build a Hitler robot, we can use our Chuck Norris robot to kick Hitler’s ass.
I agree 100% with you. You said it! We need to be prepare for what the future technology holds for us. I personally believe that we should start by teaching our children the importance of technology and the risks that it comes with it. I love technology until certain point. For example, during my childhood I remember riding my bike and playing with friends on my neighborhood until sunset. I can proudly said that thanks to my parents, I have very good memories of my childhood. Growing up, my parents decided that TV games and cable were not for me. Years later, is interesting how parents allow their kids to have an Ipad simply because it keeps them busy somehow. Is unusual to see kids ride their bikes around their house these days. Everything is good as longest we don't abuse of it.
