Will This Type of Punishment Lessen the Crime Rates
I believe that the eye for an eye justice system that the episode White Bear portrayed really did not serve a punishment that the criminal could learn from. The objective of torturing and filming her like she did to the six year old girl and then swiping her brain of the memory, and continuously repeating the punishment was not effective. I think that the punishment that she received should have been done once and then put her in jail so she can reflect on the similar feelings that the six year old girl suffered from. I believe that if our society turned this type of punishment crime would be less likely, but the process of figuring out who actually did the crime would be way stricter. But I also believe that this type of punishment should only be used for criminals who are facing the death penalty or life sentences. I do not believe that this eye for an eye justice system should have to be used for simple misdemeanor crimes. I also agree with the fact that the society we live in today would support this particular justice system because we believe that justice should be served for the suffering victims, and people would want to see the criminals suffer from the pain they put onto someone else. I think that the eye for an eye punishment is one of the oldest theories about appropriate criminal punishment, and has remained in our modern sayings, because it resonates with so many people. It really can be an effective way to punish people because instead of just sitting in jail, they actively learn what they did to someone else, or how they made someone else feel or hurt. Like I said before, I do not think you can enact this kind of punishment because in certain situations you can not do the same thing to someone else, but in situations where it is applicable. I think that it can be a good way to teach someone a lesson they will actually remember. I think that if more people were punished in the same way that they committed the crime, they would think twice before doing it. I believe that if you do something to someone, you may not realize the physical or emotional impact until it is done back to you. An eye for an eye punishment is equal source of punishment that does deliver justice against those who have inflicted controversy.

I understand your theory of people thinking twice about their actions once they have been put through them themselves, but what about the people who still do not feel any regret? Some of the most disgusting acts of violence in history were done by people have absolutely no regret of doing them. An example I can readily think of is Charles Manson. He even goes as far to believe that his acts were for the good of humanity. What do you think would be the proper punishment for these people?
I don't think these criminals should have to relieve the violent acts they committed, because some of them will not even regret doing the violent act. I think another way to help these criminals is by speaking to a psychologist, to see why they act the way they act. I think by getting to the root of their problem by talking to a psychologist will help these criminal when they are released from prison.
I do agree that if eye for eye justice was implemented that crime rates would be lower, because it is one thing when a person does something horrible to another person, but it is another thing when it happens to them. However, I do not think that it should be implemented, because some of the crimes people commit should not be done to the lowest of animals. I, also, agree with Tiffany that some criminals talking to psychologists to understand why the did what they did would be helpful. I am sure that it would help most criminals, but not everyone does well when talking to a psychologist.
