Catch me if you can

The documentary Catfish is about a guy named Nev and how he was fooled by a lady named Angela through social media. She pretended to be someone she was not. She used a pictured of a stranger and made Nev think that it was her. He would exchange long text messages with her, and have long conversations on the phone with her. They created a strong relationship over time. I do believe Angela was morally wrong for fooling Nev, even though they both did have a valid relationship. She was also wrong for bringing in her daughter into the whole situation. But I admired how Nev handled the situation, he did not shame or embarrassed Angela. He instead tried to find out why she was acting that way, by trying to talk to her. I feel like a lot of people would have not done that. I think he felt some empathy towards her once he got the chance to see how her everyday day life was. He was able to meet her family and who she really was. Angela had a lot on her plate from taking care of two disabled twins from her husband’s previous marriage to dealing with her actual husband. Her husband just seemed clueless, it seemed like he didn’t do much to help her. This is the reason I believe she fooled Nev, she used it as an escape from her own reality. I honestly just feel bad for both of them. Nev, for thinking he had found someone he could love, and being disappointed in the end. Angela, for having to live that tough life of hers, and having to escape to another world. It’s sad how someone can just hide behind a computer and pretend to be someone they are not.

I personally don't feel very sympathetic to her about her husband for two reasons. One, she chose to marry him. It was not a decision forced on her by anyone. She may not have known what all it would entail, but that is not a particularly good excuse. Two, he didn't even seem to be that bad of a husband. Sure, he was not exceedingly intelligent and held a rather simplistic view of life, but he did provide for her. Many seem to have disagreed with his question of what she wanted in life and how he said to stay in the house. But he also said that she was the one who wanted the house. He himself didn't have any ambitions and he didn't think she did either. He actually seemed to support her dreams, at least with the art. He bragged about how good it was and was thankful Nev was being such a good customer to his wife.

Yes, I felt bad that she's married to this guy too. I feel that she can definitely find better!
