Providing Help to the people of Memphis
The Help Memphis app provides a way for the Memphis community to find help for a variety of issues. Such as suicide, sexual and domestic abuse, homelessness and home life aid, STD related issues, and mental health illnesses. The concept of this app is incredible and definitely something that could be helpful to the people of Memphis. Memphis, as well as many other cities, have ways to help the issues listed above. The problem is that people are not aware of where to go to find help. The Help Memphis app is a great source for people to utilize in their time of need, but have no clue on where to start or who they can trust to tell their personal issue. My favorite aspect of the app was the variety of options to call hotlines. One of the best ways to overcome an issue is to talk to someone that is trained to deal with the struggles someone might be facing. The non-emergency police line was also a smart addition to add to the app. Many people are unaware that there are two different lines and the first number to call may not always be 911. The design of the app definitely has room for improvement, but I am aware that the free app generators found online only allow you to do so much, but the overall design of the app seems dated. A more modern look to the app could definitely strengthen the app overall. The pictures that are displayed are also not the best fit. As someone stated in class, they give a touristy vibe to the app. The picture of the city I think is okay, but the Beale Street and the "I Heart Memphis" pictures could definitely be replaced with ones that are more efficient. For example, pictures of Memphis families together in the community in locations such as Shelby Farms or Overton Park could be a better option. Also, the option to call hotlines directly from the app with the click of a button or be linked to the website is extremely convenient for app users and works much better than providing a phone number that the user would have to retype in their phone or to have to copy and paste a website URL. The legal assistance option for a problem that may seem as simple as paying a speeding ticket was also a great addition because it alleviates some of the stress from being clueless on how to deal with paying for a fine or dealing with other legal matters.
