Victoria was punished for crimes against Jemima via memory erasure. She then goes on to continuously live the same "apocalypse", and be notified of her previous actions in what seems to be an infinite loop. Is this really appropriate? Let's talk about it.
My position on this is no: she did not deserve that and she should have been released upon the wiping of her memory and notification of her crime. The reason why is because the Victoria that committed the crime is not the same as the Victoria that woke up in the midst of the situation she was in. In fact, the only that ties the two together is name; they are completely different people. Since Victoria #2 (the one with no memory) has no memory, she is starting over with a blank slate. Some people will say that she cannot be rehabilitated; that what she did is simply and part of her and she will inevitably do it again. I will respond to this by saying that because they erased Victoria #1's memory, there is no one left to rehabilitate being that #1 is gone forever (unless they had a way to restore her memories in which that would be an entirely different situation). That being the case, it is silly and pointless to try to punish Victoria #2 for something Victoria #1 did with the intention of showing her how it feels to be abandoned. Yes, Victoria #2 does have the potential to be the same criminal as her previous self. However, she could just as easily become the opposite as her former self. it must be considered that Victoria #1 was a result of a number of cumulative experiences and circumstances. Therefore, it stands to reason that all it takes is a different set of experiences for her to be different. The punishers believed that what they were doing to Victoria was justice. However, this is not the case. If it was justice they really wanted, then they would have only done it one time, notifying Victoria of what she had done; they then would have proceeded to leave it alone. As an alternative, they could have tried to put Victoria in a different situation with her memories still intact, and give her the same feeling of helplessness. Unfortunately, none of this applied because people continued to erase her memory and repeat the process over and over again. The only thing people really accomplished by doing this was giving themselves self satisfaction of getting back at the wrong-doer, which is not justice at all.
To conclude, the punishment was a very sad attempt to make Victoria feel bad about she did. There was no sim to rehabilitate her, revealing that the "justice" served was all punitive. Wiping her memory clean and inflicting punishment on her was effective only in making the people feel better about themselves.

I meant "aim" not "sim" sorry.
