There is nothing like the feeling of doing something wrong and having it shoved in your face. Imagine having that happen to you over and over again except the punishment being something so cruel and unjust that only a sick mind can think of it.
Watching the TV series, Black Mirror, has really brought to my attention how unaware I am of many different situations that could possibly happen in the future. This past week, in an episode called White Bear, a girl is repeatedly erased of her memory each day and forced to relive the nightmare that has her thinking everyone is watching her while she is being tortured and chased after. While the people standing around watching and recording off their phones in the Justice Park have paid to play that part in her 'life' everyday, there are also actors who repeatedly perform the same drama each day.
In my opinion, the thought of this actually happening in real life is terrifying and absolutely disturbing. To erase someone's memory and cause them the same exact pain over and over again completely baffles me. I believe that no matter what the wrongdoer has done, no human person, who is able to make amends of their mistakes, should be treated in that sense of inhumanity. Along with defiling their humanistic nature, this type of punishment is ultimately nauseating in the sense that the person in charge is OK with doing it. How can someone sleep at night knowing they are causing another person, just like them, that much pain and suffering?
Along with the main character being punished, lets talk about how their law enforcement is arranged. To create a Justice Park to treat the mentally unstable for profit? How could the government even allow that? What kind of society would people think we live in?
If our government was to create an establishment of that sort, do we not think regular people would go mad by acting in the sense that those who have done wrong are basically animals for us to torture? The whole idea in this episode disturbs me in so many different ways. I just do not understand how something of that nature could be brought up into a building a put on a performance to allow others that kind of sick entertainment.
If we are so concerned on making the world a better place, we have to start with bettering ourselves before we can even try and help those who need assistance in a special way.
