Is Victoria the Same Person?
At the end of the short film, "White Bear," Victoria's crime is displayed and suddenly the sympathy, if any, for her was gone. I did feel, to a certain extent, some sympathy for her because I do not think that the punishment she received was unethical. I do not think that a human being should be submitted to that type of torture by other human beings. Which is why I believe her punishment should have been life in jail or the very least the death penalty. These punishments are more humane than having her tortured over and over again. I also think that from the very moment they erased her memory she was not the same Victoria that committed the crime. She did not remember at all what she had done and in the film when the director of "White Bear" Park played on the screen the news report on her crime, she reacted with first surprise and then repent. I think since she was not the same person who committed the crime she was so devastated with what she had done. I think that if she had been the same person who committed the crime mentally she might have reacted differently. I think that in the short film she actually shows that she is sorry for what she did. Even though she is getting the exact punishment as the crime, I still think that it is an unethical way of punishing someone because at the end of every "show" she would say to please just kill her, and if the torture she felt was that bad to where she prefer to die, that punishment is not acceptable. In the film she experiences so many things like confusion and fear for her life for the first time for two and a half weeks. She was treated like an animal almost because of the conditions they had her in and also because they control every aspect of her life. She has no control over anything. And since I do think she is not the same Victoria that committed the crime because they erased her memory I believe she is being unjustly punished. I believe that a life in jail or the death penalty would have been a better way of punishing her and also still maintaining human morals.

Veronica, I completely agree!! I think that her punishment for that crime is very extreme. And to repeat it everyday is horrifying. Victoria is reliving a nightmare everyday that she can't wake up from. Also, I too think from that moment her memory was erased she was not the same person she was when she committed such heinous crimes. Therefore, they should not punish someone who has no idea who they even are or no idea of their past. I believe it would have been most efficient to only do this punishment once and not erase her memory so she can remember what she put the little girl through and live with it then be sent to jail. :)
